Only four simple ingredients are essential to the production of Parma Ham: Italian pigs, salt, air and time. Unlike many other prosciuttos, Parma Ham is an all-natural ham; additives such as colourings, nitrites and nitrates are strictly prohibited by the rules of the Consorzio.
In Australia, we are increasingly interested in ensuring that we are eating well. Meaning we want healthy foods as well as foods that are delicious!
Parma Ham meets both of these criteria. Thanks to its nutritional values, Parma Ham is great for children, sports men or women and elderly people. This is because Parma Ham has a high protein content and is rich in free amino acids. In addition, Parma Ham contains a high levels of vitamins (in particular, vitamins B1, B6, B12 and PP) and minerals (salts such as phosphorus, zinc, iron and selenium).
Parma Ham does not contain any colouring agents or preservatives such as nitrites and nitrates commonly used in the preparation of other similar products. The only ingredients allowed by the Production Specifications are in fact pork and salt.
