Parma Ham goes to Paris

Selezione Anniversario presented to sector operators

The Parisian agri-food event par excellence, Sial, scheduled up to 23rd October at the Parc des Expositions, has just opened its doors. A very important fair event at which the Parma Ham Consortium could absolutely not fail to be present.

This year, the exhibition area dedicated to Parma Ham has been suitably enlarged compared to the previous year to facilitate the meeting with operators, and especially to meet producers' requirements.

We expect a large attendance – said Paolo Tanara, President of the Consortium – not only of visitors, but by our own companies that are here to consolidate already existing relations, and above all because, today, looking abroad and being open to internationalization has become absolutely inescapable for any activity at a time like this where the domestic market is feeling the effects of a general drop in consumption that has involved the entire cured ham sector, including protected production.

In fact, last year, we obtained excellent results and exported a total of 2,500,000 hams for a production turnover of 237 million Euro.

And France, which is hosting us over these few days, despite the situation of difficulty of the European area, is holding up well and for us remains an important market, the third for Parma Ham exports. With about 420,000 pieces, it is in fact behind only the United States and Germany.

The 2014 fair will also be dedicated to presenting the Selezione Anniversario  to sector operators. The Selezione is a special Parma Ham created in 2013 to celebrate 50 years of the Crown. It is matured for 30 months and is limited edition, carefully selected by the producers and guaranteed by the Parma Ham Consortium. This new element was announced in advance by some communication activities prepared on the main sector newspapers with the purpose of suitably informing the public. The Selezione will be visually enhanced by a corner specially set up at the Consortium's stand to intrigue and, at the same time, make it immediately recognizable to visitors who will want to taste this prestigious Ham.
